Age-Related Differences in Subjective Ratings of Hierarchical Information
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present study investigated differences in subjective measures (Ease of Navigation, Sense of Orientation, Satisfaction) when older and younger computer users traversed expandable and nonexpandable online hierarchical information structures. Twenty four older and 24 younger computer users participated in the study. Older users rated their computer and Internet experience significantly lower than younger participants. Two-way ANOVA analyses showed that Age was only significant in the Sense of Orientation, although the age-effect on user satisfaction became significant after Internet experience was factored out, indicating that Internet experience mediates the effect of age on user satisfaction. Neither hierarchy excelled in subjective measures. The results of the study suggest that older adults remain at a disadvantage regardless of the hierarchical design alternatives examined in the study.

Age-related differences in the neural basis of the subjective vividness of memories: evidence from multivoxel pattern classification.
Although older adults often show reduced episodic memory accuracy, their ratings of the subjective vividness of their memories often equal or even exceed those of young adults. Such findings suggest that young and older adults may differentially access and/or weight different kinds of information in making vividness judgments. We examined this idea using multivoxel pattern classification of fMR...

Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to examine gender differences on t...
متن کاملLinking the Positivity Effect in Attention with Affective Outcomes: Age Group Differences and the Role of Arousal
Despite its assumed importance for emotional well-being, studies investigating the positivity effect (PE) in older adults' information processing rarely tested its relationship with immediate or general affective outcome measures like emotional reactivity or emotional well-being. Moreover, the arousal level of the to-be-processed emotional stimuli has rarely been taken into account as a moderat...
متن کاملDiscordant Relationship Between Evaluation of Facial Expression and Subjective Pain Rating Due to the Low Pain Magnitude
Introduction: Facial expression to pain is an important pain indicator; however, facial movements look unresponsive when perceiving mild pain. The present study investigates whether pain magnitude modulates the relationship between subjective pain rating and an observer’s evaluation of facial expression. Methods: Twelve healthy volunteers were recruited to obtain 108 samples for pa...
متن کاملAcute subjective response to alcohol as a function of reward and punishment sensitivity.
Individual differences in subjective response to alcohol play a crucial role in the development of heavy drinking and related problems. In light of this, a growing focus of research has been identifying factors that contribute to differences in response. The aim of the present study was to determine whether individual differences in the subjective experience of rewarding and aversive effects of...
